Stay Cool This Summer

The summer heat doesn't have to be unbearable. With more time spent on the outside of your home, just a few tricks and regular maintenance and cleaning of your outdoor space, feeling (and looking) cool will be a breeze.

Start Up Your Sprinkler and/or Pool Systems. The water hasn't been flowing in quite a few months, so it's good to get these running and investigate whether or not any repairs or maintenance need done for them to function properly all season.

Set Your Ceiling Fan Blades. In the colder months, we want our ceiling fans to run clockwise to gently pull air up and force warm air out and to the sides of the room. Once it starts to get warmer, however, set the blades to run counter-clockwise. This will force cool air directly down creating a wind-chill effect that can keep a room up to 8 degrees cooler.

Clean the Exterior of Your Home. Power washing the siding and fences, wiping down HVAC system coils to clear debris, and washing your windows and weepholes makes for not only a nice-looking home, but an efficient one as well.

Check Deck Safety. More time spent on the deck or patio can leave more opportunities for weak areas to fail. Inspect all angles of your outdoor living space from the foundation to the railings, stairs, and staining of wood.
