How to Unclog a Shower Drain?

Let’s face it. Your shower or bath tub drain is going to get clogged at some point. It’s just the nature of having hair. If your drain isn’t blocked, here are a few simple steps you can take to help slow down clogs and avoid having to deal with that gross gunk that build up over time.

• Use a mesh drain cover to stop hair from entering the drain. While this may seem like you’re adding more work by having to clean the strainer, it’s a whole lot easier than taking the drain apart. Make sure to clean the hair and debris away after each use to prevent water from pooling.

• Squeegee. Get one. A squeegee is a great way to prevent mildew from building up on the walls of your showers. Get that water down the drain before it forms mildew on your walls. The buildup of mildew can certainly also build up in your drain.

• Use shampoos and soaps that are easily broken down to prevent them from building up in your drain.

• Vinegar/baking soda. Pouring a little of each down the drain occasionally can break up small amounts of buildup from soaps and other cleaning products, as well as eliminate odors.
